In 2007, after over a decade as a professional touring and recording artist, Ian Somers turned his attention toward writing and composing music for film and television, and scored his first film, the CFC produced short drama, “Night”. The orchestral score, with traditional Japanese Koto and strings, earned him a Leo nomination for ‘Best Original Score for a short drama’.
Since then he has scored a long list of film and television, from feature length romantic comedy to episodic Batman, reality TV, and high profile commercials.
Ian's understanding of orchestral harmony, melody and arrangement, combined with his history of instrumental skills, as well as extensive experience with writing and producing hip hop and electronic music, makes it possible for him to move comfortably through many genres with equal conviction and competence. His compositions range from deeply emotive to happily static, rhythmic bounce, and his personal passion for story telling, along with a cooperative attitude, help make him an excellent member of any film production team.
